Women are missing . . .
Is the rising number of abused women who've gone missing a statistical anomaly? Or is a serial killer targeting this vulnerable group of women?
When the Milwaukee Police Department refuses to investigate because no bodies have been discovered, Lisa Rayburn, the clinical psychologist who discovers the anomaly, is drawn into an investigation to discover the cause after one of her own clients goes missing. She finds herself forming an unlikely alliance with a former policewoman turned security consultant, TJ Peacock, and the husbands of two of the missing women who may themselves be murderers.
When TJ is attacked, and a woman looking remarkably like Lisa is found murdered, they know . . . someone is willing to kill to protect his secret.
Can they reveal the killer before he gets to them?

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were very interesting and the story line excellent. I don't recall any swearing and there are no sex scene descriptions. So for those of you who don't like that you won't find it here. I don't mind but a lot of people do so I always mention it. There are also no descriptions of dead bodies, etc.I liked the fact that the author wove in past events and what the killer was thinking, etc. Even though the people working together to find the killer or killers were sure that they were all innocent you still had to wonder since two of them possibly murdered their wives. This story is not a thriller (action wise) but you don't want to put it down because you want to know how everything gets tied up at the end. Plus, the interaction between the characters was good.
There was a twist at the end which I won't mention, but I wish that the bodies in the basement had been finished up. I don't recall finding out who the bodies belonged to (I apologize if it was & I just missed it - I read a lot at night and get pretty tired so sometimes I do miss something because I just don't want to put a good story down). I was really shocked by the twist.
I look forward to reading any other stories by this author. It was a book that you just didn't want to put it down and I can't imagine anyone not liking it.

She Not There TJ Peacock Lisa Rayburn Mysteries Book 1 edition by Marla Madison Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I was torn between 2 or 3 stars. I only gave 2 stars as I was struggling to remember who was who. Author keeps bringing in new characters.
The book felt jumpy, there was no flow. Also I failed to connect to any characters, lots of things seemed pointless and unnecessary.
Near the end of the book, some of the things characters did seemed almost absurd.
The idea of the story was very good,I really tried to enjoy the book.
This book was not my liking, but it dose not mean other people will not like it.
I read this book without looking at the posted reviews here on Goodreads. I am so glad I did because I don't understand the lower ratings. I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down! If I had had enough time to finish it in 2 days I would have. I read half of it in one day because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next.
I do agree with some of the criticism there are, at times, a lot of characters. In a few sections, I wasn't remembering who certain people were. There was a lot of focus on what people looked like and their attraction to other characters. I didn't really care for that. The budding romances was predictable, but probably natural. While I was happy for the glimpse of the future in the epilogue, there were some aspects of where the characters were that seemed stretched to create a "happy ending." And finally, one of the main characters commits an illegal act that goes unpunished and doesn't seem to jive with her character. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that aspect of the story.
What I did like was the pairing of the two female characters and the friendship that evolves. The storyline is well thought out and planned. I found it to be a real page turner. While some said it was slow, I thought the pacing was great. I liked the small town feel to the story. The opening chapter was definitely an attention getter, and I liked how the reader got to follow how the bad guy became the bad guy.
This is an entertaining, murder mystery, thriller, woman power book. It would make an interesting local book club discussion night. It definitely made me interested in reading more by this author.
This is the first book I have read by Marla Madison and I enjoyed it VERY much. A unique plot filled with lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing. I love the characters. TJ Peacock and Lisa Rayburn make this story that much more interesting because they each bring their own uniqueness to it. TJ (former cop turned PI) and Lisa (Therapist) both strong female characters make one hell of a team! This book had me hooked from the first page to the last and then had me going back for the second book in this series! It has everything that you hope to find in a great mystery/suspense/thriller. Murder, Mystery, Secrets, Love, Lust, many plot twists, great characters and backgrounds, vivid scenery, and oh so much more! Marla Madison writes with a style all her own that flows smoothly and at a steady pace that keeps the reader going non-stop page after page!
Women are missing...abused women but no one seems to notice and others seem not to care. Aside from her own office Lisa Rayburn volunteers at a women's center once a week where she counsels abused women. She has just finished giving a class on How To Prevent Domestic Abuse when she is approached by a young woman who gives her some information showing a dramatic increase in the percentage of abused women who've gone missing. Lisa knowing the statistic is to high to be an error, promises to have it checked out. When one of her own clients goes missing Lisa becomes far more concerned. Her worry grows when the woman's husband reports her missing and ask Lisa for her help. He doesn't believe that his wife just up and left but that she was taken. She goes to the local police to get their input on the increase in missing women and is pretty much brushed off, most believing these women left of their own free will and since there have been no bodies they have to work each case individually. Enter TJ Peacock former cop turned PI who also believes something more sinister is taking place and has been trying to look into it for a while. She approaches Lisa at her office and asks if she would be interested in helping her to learn more. So begins an unlikely friendship and a mission to find who is taking these women and why? TJ has no problem bending and breaking the rules in which ever way she deems fit to get to the bottom of this case and although Lisa wants to try to go about it the right way but it soon becomes clear that is not always possible. With their own secrets, these women are determined to find out what is happening with the missing women and together with a few more colorful friends they set out to stop a cunning killer before he can claim another victim.
Storyline 5 stars; believable characters, well written, very engaging story that drew me in so much so that I hated to put the book down to even get something to eat when I was hungry!
Grammar 5 stars; 1-2 grammatical errors.
Sexual content 4 stars; a description of body parts that to some may seem graphic.
Language 4 stars; TJ (a private eye who is a main character in the series) has a potty mouth who only seems to swear when she is provoked, a spattering of offensive language throughout the book.

So for those of you who don't like that you won't find it here. I don't mind but a lot of people do so I always mention it. There are also no descriptions of dead bodies, etc.
